In process, Northern Spring, Tumbling

In Maine, Faylinda has been experimenting with watercolor, gouache, and collage—mediums that offer both immediacy and versatility. Collage, in particular, allows her to explore spontaneous compositions with found materials, from vintage U.S. Geological Survey maps first collected during her studies at the University of Maine, Portland, to patterned origami papers gathered through travel and teaching.
Gardening and collecting wildflower seeds have also become sources of inspiration, connecting her studio practice to the natural rhythms around her.
The latest series, Manual Exposure: Developed by Hand, extends Faylinda’s ongoing interest in the handmade and the everyday. Translating photographic references into expressive color and gesture, these paintings bridge the quick capture of photography and the slower, tactile process of painting. The works reflect an evolving practice rooted in curiosity, craft, and close observation of daily life.
